Barb Bunkowsky

Bunkowsky began playing at age 10 and began entering tournaments at age 15. Bunkowsky played her amateur golf out of Burlington Springs Golf and Country Club, which her father Larry built and is still operated by her brother and sister. She received a scholarship to Palm Beach Junior College in Florida and earned all-American status twice there and also at Florida State, where she helped her team win the 1981 AIAW Championship. She won the Ontario Women's Amateur in 1981, turned pro and joined the LPGA Tour in 1983, where she captured the Chrysler-Plymouth Charity Classic the following year, coming from behind in the final round to beat Muffin Spencer-Devlin by four shots.
Bunkowsky played full time on the LPGA Tour between 1983 and 2000. She was in 387 events making 211 cuts and was in the Top 10 28 times. Her best finish was in 1994 when she earned $167,039 and was 32nd on the money list. She got married in 1995 and had a daughter, Alexa, in 1998.
When she retired from competitive golf, Bunkowsky was an agent for the American insurance giant Aflac for four years, but the urge to get back into the sport was too great. She did that by starting to teach. "I've gone into golf full time as a teacher," she says. "I give private lessons, and I do golf schools and summer camps. I love teaching. I absolutely love it." She also teaches The First Tee golf program in Florida.
Bunkowsky joined the Legends Women's Senior Tour in 2004. She still loves going back to Burlington Springs in the summer and plans on spending more time up in Canada during the summer in the future.

Bunkowsky shot 77-74-75-84=310 (+18) to finish T37 in the inaugural U.S. Senior Women's Open.
