Barry Lane

Started playing golf at age 14 with his father. His dad bought him clubs from a newspaper advertisement and he managed to break three of them the first week. Turned pro at 16 and worked as an assistant professional at Downshire Golf Club for eight years mostly teaching and repairing clubs. Played in many Pro-Ams and one-day events in South England.
Attended European Tour Qualifying School seven times, receiving his card after the third of seven attempts. Did not have a sponsor for the first two years, so only played UK tournaments.
In 1986, finished seventh at Qualifying School and played the European Tour until 2011. Played in 685 events, including five wins, 84 top-10s, and earnings of euro 6,974,637.
First win was the 1988 Scottish Open, and then it took four more years to win for the second time - 1992 Mercedes German Masters. He then won three more European tournaments. In the United States, he won one World Match Play Championship.
Finished runner-up on the Senior Tour Order of Merit in consecutive seasons, first to Peter Fowler in 2011 and then Roger Chapman in 2012. Won his fourth Senior Tour title at the 2012 Speedy Services Wales Senior Open and also finished T-3rd in the Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex at Turnberry. In 2011, he successfully defended the Scottish Senior Open where he eagled the closing hole to finish two shots clear of American Gary Koch, before claiming the Casa Serena Open the following month. Won his maiden Senior Tour title in Scotland in 2010, just four events into his Senior Tour career, having finished joint runner-up in his Senior Tour debut in the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship. That victory, at Fairmont St. Andrews Resort, was 22 years after also winning his first European Tour title on Scottish soil in the 1988 Scottish Open. Has been balancing life on the Senior Tour with his continued career on The European Tour, where he reached a major milestone of 600 appearances at the 2008 Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy. He is second on the all-time list behind Sam Torrance, who has played in 706 European Tour events.
In 2004, he won the British Master's title at the Marriott Forest of Arden - his first victory in 10 years. His previous four victories were between 1988 and 1994, including the 1993 European Masters, which cemented his place in that year's Ryder Cup at The Belfry. Won $1 million in the 1995 Accenture World Championship of Golf - a far cry from his early days as a professional. Has gone to Champions Tour Q-School several times and played the tour full time in 2013. But finished 67th on the money list and wasn't able to get his Tour card back. In 33 Champions Tour events, best finish was T-3rd at the 2012 & 2014 Senior Open Championship. 2016 Notes: Has finished inside the top five on the Senior Tour Order of Merit in five of the last six seasons. Won his first event in four years at the season-ending 2016 MCB Tour Championship, in 11 events won euros128,760 and was 5-thin in the order of merit. Played in 4 Champions Tour events best finish T-36th at the Senior Open Championship. Returned to Champions Q-School but finished T-41st.
2017 European Legends Seniors Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 15; top-10 finishes - 5; Euro156,704 (ranked 7th); Best finish, won Willow Senior Golf Classic. Played in 3 PGA Tour Champions events, best T-28th Senior PGA Championship
2018 Notes: Played in 16 European Legends Tour events with five top-ten finishes. T-2nd at the Shipco Masters, T-5th in the Travis Perkins Masters, and T-6th at the Senior Italian Open. He is 16th on the Staysure Tour order of merit with euro139,789 in earnings. On the PGA Tour Champions best finish T-23rd at the Senior PGA Championship.
2019 Notes: Played in 15 European Legends Tour events making 14 cuts with four top-ten finishes. Was 6th in the Order of Merit with winnings of euro161,901. Won the Senior Italian Open beating Marc Farry in a playoff. Also won the MCB Tour Championship - Madagascar by a shot over Jean-Francois Remesy and Juan Quiros. Was 2nd at the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship, a shot back of winner Jean-Francois Remesy. Also T=5th at the Murhof Legends â?? Austrian Senior Open. In his three PGA Tour Champions events, best finish was T-46th at the Senior Open Championship.
2020 & 2021 Notes: Was T-61st at the 2020 Chubb Classic and T-67th at the 2021 Insperity Invitational.
