A five-time winner of the Northern Ohio PGA Player of the Year award. . . Captured the season money title and stroke average honor in the 1998-99 PGA Tournament Series.. . Winner of 1997, '98 Ohio Senior Open. . . . Competed in U.S. Open in 1976. . . First professional golf position was as an assistant professional at Pensacola (Fla.) Country Club in 1971. One of Abbott's pupils in the program was Jerry Pate, who five years later won the U.S. Open. Abbott's only U.S. Open appearance was in 1976 at Atlanta Athletic Club, where he missed the cut but watched Pate win the title. . .Tied for 37th in 1999 PGA Senior Club Professional Championship.
