Closest he came to qualifying for a USGA championship previously was in 2009 when he didn't advance through an eight-player playoff at sectional qualifying for the U.S. Mid-Amateur. First competitive golf event was the 1999 North Carolina Amateur at 38 years old. Has an 83-year-old father who is a good player and introduced him to the game. Plays on the Golfweek Amateur Tour. Graduated from Clemson University, but didn't play golf there. Was an avid tennis player from a young age and in high school. Is a financial consultant for TIAA-CREF. Always wears something orange while playing golf. Likes to hang out at the pool with his wife and 4-year-old daughter.
