Claud Cooper

Claud Cooper ran around with a plastic driver and a plastic whiffle ball for the better part of his youth. That is, until, he started his stride with titanium clubs alongside his father. Cooper grew up playing golf at Indian Hills Country Club, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where legendary football coach Bear Bryant played all his life. Cooper played on his high school team and was recruited to play for the University of Alabama.
He has played in three U.S. Amateurs, and this will be his first U.S. Senior Open.
His friend, and 1990 U.S. Senior Amateur Winner, Jackie Cummings, talked Cooper into trying to qualify for the 1992 U.S. Amateur at Muirfield Village Golf Club. At that time, Jack Nicklaus? place was fairly new and everyone was raging about it. Cummings figured that Nicklaus? place would provide caddies and told Cooper they would not have to worry about asking anyone. They eventually get to Ohio to play their practice round, but Cummings mixed up Muirfield Village G.C. and Muirfield Country Club. Disappointed, they walk across the street where they found out no caddies were available and that they would each have to carry their bags unless one of them wanted to drive the cart for the other. Cummings, not wanting to walk, caddied for Cooper and drove the cart. On the 14th hole, Cooper made a quick stop at the restroom and when he came out Cummings was teeing off. Cooper was disqualified as a result of Cummings' playing.
He has won a total of nine club championships at the Country Club of Birmingham, Shoal Creek, Indian Hills Country Club, and North River Yacht Club.
He traded bonds for 31 years and now he is attempting to develop some personal real estate.
