Daniela Holmqvist

Holmqvist was born in Switzerland to Yvonne and Hans Holmqvist, a Swedish professional soccer player with 27 appearances for the national team. He played for Young Boys in Bern at the time. Dani started playing golf at the age of 2. After finishing high school in Stockholm, Sweden she moved to the United States and played college golf at Tulane University for a year before transferring to the University of California, Berkeley. She graduated from Cal-Berkeley. She had two wins in college. In 2009 at Tulane, she was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year and later helped the Golden Bears to win the 2012 Pac-12 Conference Championship. Won the 2009 SAS Masters Volkswagen Open as an amateur.
Turned professional in 2012 and first received international headlines in 2013 when what tournament officials believe was a redback spider, a relative of the famed black widow, nipped her leg during a qualification round for the Women's Australian Open at Royal Canberra Golf Club. Holmqvist swatted the spider away, used a golf tee to pierce her skin and squeeze out the venom, and finished her round shooting 74. After that incident she was given the name "Spider Woman."
Holmqvist got a taste of the LPGA Tour in 2014 when she played in 10 events after earning partial status by finishing T-44th at the 2013 LPGA Qualifying Tournament. She only made two cuts, her best finish was T-69th at the Honda LPGA Thailand. After an indifferent year, she became disenchanted with the game and almost gave it up until seeking help from Hockey Hall of Famer Mats Sundin. From Sweden, he helped her with mental toughness which changed her whole commitment to golf and her work process.
2015 Notes: She played on the Symetra Tour and was fifth on the money list with a win at the Island Resort Championship. Because of her finish on the money list gained status on the LPGA Tour for 2016.
2016 Notes: Played in 18 LPGA events and only made four cuts, her best finish was T-47th at the Cambia Portland Classic. She was 149th on the money list with only $20,579. She returned to Q-School and finished 15th regaining her card for 2017.
2017 Notes: Played in 20 LPGA events and made 10 cuts. Best finish 15th at the Cambia Portland Classic she was 113th on the money list with $81,995. It was back to Q-School were she finished T-16th to again regain her LPGA card for 2018.
2018 Notes: Started the year with a 4th-place finish at the Australian Ladies Classic Bonville and T-9th at the Women's NSW Open, both on the LET. Best finish on the LPGA Tour T-19th at the Kingsmill Championship.
