David Ishii

Ishii grew up on the island of Kauai in Hawaii and graduated from Kauai High School. As a junior in high school, he won the Hawaii State High School Championship. He turned professional in 1979, and in 1985 joined the Japan Golf Tour playing on that tour full time between 1985 and 2005. He led the money list on the Japan Golf Tour in 1987, the same year he won six times on that tour. He has 14 victories on the Japan Golf Tour and is 13th on the career money list with 814,695,905 ($10,042,476).
Ishii won the inaugural Kapalua Open in 1982 and also won the 1990 Hawaiian Open, a PGA Tour event. He was the second Hawaiian native to win the event, after Ted Makalena in 1966. Even with the Hawaiian Open win, he never joined the PGA Tour, keeping his playing in Japan. Over the years, he has only played in 39 PGA Tour events with a total of five top 10s and earnings of $386,825 - $180,000 of that coming from his Hawaiian Open victory.
Ishii is currently the Director of Golf at Pearl Country Club in Aiea, Hawaii. He also operates the David S. Ishii Foundation, which sponsors the Hawaii State High School Golf Championship and grants scholarships to graduating seniors. He has been inducted into the Hawaii Golf Hall of Fame, Hawaii High School Sports Hall of Fame (2006) and Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame (2004).
Has played in multiple USGA events, including the 1972 U.S. Junior Amateur, 1974 U.S. Amateur, 1975 U.S. Amateur Public Links, 1988 U.S. Open and two U.S. Senior Opens.
Has played in a total of 11 Champions Tour events, mostly in Hawaii or the senior majors. In those events, his best finish is a T-13th at the 2007 Turtle Bay Championship.
