Denis Durnian

Played on the European Tour between 1973 and 1992 never winning a title in 276 starts. Finished runner-up four times, 1978 Greater Manchester Open, 1988 Peugeot Open de France, 1989 Jersey European Airways Open and Epson Grand Prix.
Durnian captured the biggest first prize in European Seniors Tour history when he won the 2001 Wales Seniors Open at Royal St David's. The Englishman began the tournament in a far from auspicious fashion when he opened with a five over par 74 but he stormed through the field with a second round 65 and then captured the 139,555 euro (£83,300) prize with a final round of 69. Durnian's win in Wales brought to an end a run of five second place finishes, the first four coming during his previous career on The European Tour, and the fifth achieved in his first appearance on the European Seniors Tour at the 2000 Coca Cola Kaiser Karl tournament in Germany. The win in Wales, coupled with eight other top ten finishes, including a second place finish at the Microlease Jersey Seniors Masters where he lost to Japan's Seiji Ebihara in a play-off, enabled Durnian to finish second on the Order of Merit and also earned him a place in the inaugural UBS Warburg Cup, where he defeated Dana Quigley 2 and 1 in the singles. Guaranteed his place again in 2002 with victory in the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open at The Roxburghe, which cemented his second place in the Order of Merit behind Seiji Ebihara.
