Derek Tolan

Tolan will be the youngest in this years U.S. Open field at 16 years old. He is finishing up his junior year at ThunderRidge High School and he got into the championship when he chipped in from 50 feet for birdie to win a slot in the first extra playoff hole. With the chip he beat PGA Tour winner Mike Ried and club pro Mike Zaremba. Its not the first time that Tolan will play in a USGA event, last year at age 15 he qualified for the U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Junior. Thanks to qualifying for the Open Tolan will also get a new car that his father John, who is head pro at the South Suburaban Family Sports Center promised him if he qualified. Tolan won this year's Arizona Junior Classic.
