George Archer

One of four players to win in his Champions Tour debut when he won 1989 Gatlin Brothers Southwest Classic. Victory came 14 days after his 50th birthday, making him the second youngest champion in Champions Tour history. Archer went on to share senior player of the year honors with Mike Hill in 1989. He also became one of the senior tour's oldest winners at the 2000 MasterCard Championship, winning just before age 61. Between 1990 and 1995 Archer was never below $700,000 in yearly earnings.
Has been hampered by various injuries throughout his career. Among seven major surgeries he has undergone have been left wrist (1975), back (1979), left shoulder (1987) and right hip replacement (1996)...Considered one of the game's all-time great putters, and at one time held the PGA TOUR record for fewest putts over four rounds (95/1980 Sea Pines Heritage Classic).
In his PGA Tour career Archer won 12 times, including the 1969 Masters, and finished among the Tour's top-five money winners in 1968, '71 and '72.

Had 18 top-five finishes, the most by any Champions Tour player in 1991 . . . Set a Champions Tour record by recording 19 straight sub-par rounds in 1991.
1992 Champions Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 32; top-10 finishes - 19; stroke average 70.04 (ranked 3rd); money $860,175 (ranked 2nd), winner, Murata Reunion Pro-am, Northville Long Island and Bruno's Memorial Classic and was runner-up twice.
