Jason Knutzon

Got the last spot for the Open Championship in Asian IFQ shooting 69-67.
The son of a fighter pilot in the US Air Force, he dreamt of becoming a pilot himself before being bitten by the golf bug. Has become something of a golfing nomad in recent years, plying his trade first on the US Nationwide Tour and then the Asian Tour. Started on the Nationwide Tour first in 2001, played in 19 events and had one top-ten with a T10th at the Louisiana Open. Finished the year 118th on the money list with $27,299. Also played on the Nationwide Tour in 2009 after finishing T87th in the 2008 Q-School, in ten starts best finish was T16th in the Christmas in October event in Kansas City. For the year finished 160th on the money list with $20,756.
When he made his debut in Asia in 2003, Jason said he struggled to cope with the heat. "I lose a lot of weight every time I come over. I feel like I need a big pizza to keep some weight on, but there hasn't exactly been a whole lot of pizzas to eat over in Asia!," said Jason. Jason enjoyed his highest finish on the Order of Merit at 15th place in 2010, thanks largely two back-to-back top-10s in the co-sanctioned Avantha Masters in India and Maybank Malaysian Open. He was a model of consistency as he missed only three cuts. Jason is a two-time winner on the Asian Tour following victories in the 2004 Macau Open and 2007 Motorola International Bintan in Indonesia.
Embarking on his first full season on The European Tour in 2011 after taking the 16th card at the 2010 Qualifying School Final Stage. Won twice in his eight seasons on the Asian Tour, at the 2004 Macau Open and at the 2007 Motorola International Bintan in Indonesia. Attended Iowa State University, where he regularly competed against 2007 US Masters champion Zach Johnson, with whom he has maintained a close friendship. Is a big fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team and the Iowa State Cyclones American football team.
This is his second major championship start, first came at the 2003 U.S. Open when he missed the cut.
