Jean Bartholomew

Started playing golf at the age of 12. Since she grew up in Garden City, N.Y., she wasn't able to play golf year round, which Bartholomew feels was a great break for her since she probably would have burned out playing so much golf as a youth.
She played in four sports instead of concentrating on one for 365 days a year. Bartholomew was a 1,000-point basketball scorer for Garden City High. She also was an All-Nassau field hockey player, a star for the county champion boys golf team and a softball player. When Newsday chose the greatest high school athletes in Long Island history, she made the list.
She took golf more serious when she went to Duke, and was runner-up in the 1988 NCAA Women's Championship. Aside from earning honors as the 1988 Women's Metropolitan Stroke Play and Match Play champion, Bartholomew was also the 1988 New York State Amateur champion.
She turned pro and qualified for the LPGA on her second attempt. Before that played on the Ladies European Tour until 1993.
Bartholomew made it to the LPGA Tour in 1996 and played full time until 2006. She played in limited events after that. She played in 263 LPGA events, making the cut in 127 of them. She had 10 Top 10 finishes, her best was T2 in the 2000 Wachovia LPGA Classic finishing three shots back of winner Michele Redman. 2000 was Jean's best year on tour, along with her runner-up finish at the Wachovia, she also had two other top 10 finishes as she won $157,635 finishing 58th on the money list. In her career, she won $929,160. In the 1995 U.S. Women's Open, she was T8 at The Broadmoor after leading at the 36-hole mark.
She started teaching in 2009 and said it was a no-brainer to continue her career in the golf industry and was lucky enough to have the "teaching gene."
" I like teaching, some people don't. Some players don't transition well with teaching. I think it's a skill with patience and people skills."
Bartholomew started teaching at the Creek Club on Long Island but made her way down to the Sunshine State and currently lives in the winter in Palm Beach Gardens and teaches at PGA National. In the summer she moves back up to Garden City, N.Y. and is an instructor at the Engineers Country Club. She has played in a few tournaments on the Legends Tour in recent years. In 2017 she finished T9 at the Senior LPGA Championship and 8th in the Suquamish Clearwater Legends Cup. She was T16 at the 2018 Senior LPGA Championship.

Bartholomew shot 73-82-76-75=306 (+14) to finish T28 in the inaugural U.S. Senior Women's Open
