Jim Gallagher, Jr.

His father, Jim, a PGA club professional, began teaching him to play golf at age 2. Comes from a golfing family, as his sister Jackie Gallagher-Smith plays on the LPGA Tour, and his brother, Jeff, qualified to play on the PGA Tour in 1996. During his youth, basketball was his favorite sport, but he was dealt a serious blow when he was cut from his high school basketball team when he was a sophomore; he ultimately devoted more his time to golf.
Qualified for the PGA Tour on his first attempt in 1983, but finished his first year 148th on the money list. Lost his card at the end of 1987 season and played only on sponsor exemptions. A tie for second at the Greater Milwaukee Open, helped him finish 124th on the money list, enough to keep his card for the 1989 season. Had a solid season in 1989, winning $265,809 to finish 50th on the money list. In that year he married Cissye Meeks, who once played on the LPGA. Won the 1990 Greater Milwaukee Open in a playoff over Ed Dougherty and Billy Mayfair.
