John Bickerton

Started the game as a caddie for his father, who was an avid golfer. His dad was in the sheet metal business and use to work doing welding on the shop floor. Gained England boy and youth honors as an amateur, but missed out in three attempts at the Qualifying School before graduating from the Challenge Tour in 1994.
Bickerton joined the Challenge Tour, in 1993. He won the 1994 Gore-Tex Challenge after a playoff, and was runner-up in the Dutch Challenge Open, on his way to 6th on the season-ending money list, which gave him automatic promotion to the European Tour for 1995. He initially struggled and had to return to the Challenge Tour in 1997. In 1998, he was runner-up in the Challenge Tour Championship and had a number of other high finishes, leaving him 9th in the end-of-season rankings and a return to the European Tour in 1999 and since then became a fixture on The European Tour for 11 years until his injury problems.
After five, second-place finishes and 287 events, he finally made his winning breakthrough in October 2005 with victory in the Abama Open de Canarias. Was a timely success as, before the week, he was outside the top 115 on the Order of Merit, he eventually finished 84th. Went on to claim his second title in 2006 when he won the French Open at Le Golf National, a victory that helped him equal his career-high Order of Merit finish of 20th.
Things took a turn in his career when he was hit by by wrist and elbow injuries in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Had a medical extension for 2013, having not played at all in 2012. Claimed his third European Tour title in 2008 when he won the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa â?? a victory which helped him keep his card for the 2010 season via the two-year exemption.
Played in his last event at the Volvo China Open in 2011. He played in 408 European Tour events making 233 cuts and finishing in the top-ten 36 times. He won euro5,307,065 in a career that stretched from 1993 to 2011. After leaving the European Tour, Bickerton became the resident professional at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club in Somerset. Played in and won several British PGA events on the local level.
2021 Notes: COVID set him back a year from playing the European Legends tour, he got his chance and played in 9 events, finishing twice in the top-ten. He was 10th in the Order of Merit, earning euro75,991. He finished T-2nd at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship a shot back of winner Paul Broadhurst. Was T-3rd at the Senior Italian Open, two shots back of winner James Kingston.
2022 Notes: Was T-21st at the Riegler & Partner Legends.
