Kim passed his Professional Golfers' Ability Test at age 24 age in the Republic of Korea, and has been playing on the Korea and Asian tours. He captured the Kirin Open in the final event of the 1997 Asian Tour season, rallying from a six-stroke margin. It was the first win by a Korean player since the Japan PGA Tour was launched in 1973. Winner of the 2011 Fancl Classic and the Japan PGA Senior Championship as a rookie, and won the season money title.
