Kay Cockerill

Began playing golf at the age of 12, credits Rick Walker, her golf coach since the age of 14, as the individual most influencing her career. Cockerill is a two-time U.S. Women's Amateur champion, winning in 1986 and 1987. She was a medalist and finalist in the 1987 Broadmoor and a medalist and quarterfinalist in the 1986 Trans-National. She also was a member of the 1986 World Cup team. A two-time All-American at UCLA, she won six events, placed fourth in the 1986 NCAA Championship, was a three-time all-conference player and was twice named MVP. She graduated from UCLA in 1987 with a degree in economics. She Turned pro and joined the LPGA Tour and played full-time between 1987 and 1997. In that time, she played in 198 events and made 89 cuts. She was in the top-10 seven times and her best finish was T-3rd in the 1991 Bay State Classic and T-5th at the 1991 Jamie Farr Toledo Classic. Her best year on tour was 1991, when she won $78,151 and was 62nd on the money list.
After her playing years, she joined Golf Channel and continues in an analyst role. Since 2009 she has lived in San Francisco with her husband Danny Dann, who works for the San Francisco Giants. The two first met when Danny caddied for her in 1991.
Kay is known for her volunteer work away from the course, Cockerill received the LPGA's Budget Service Award in 1992 for her outstanding community service and dedication to golf. In 2008, she was honored by the California Golf Writers Association with the Jack Lemmon Ambassador of Golf Award, honoring individuals in golf who have represented the game with character and personality and whose positive image has served as an invaluable service to the game. Cockerill also is a member of the Board of The First Tee of San Francisco.
