Massy Kuramoto

Kuramoto was born in Hiroshima Prefecture. He started playing golf at age 10 when his father took him to a driving range. He turned professional in 1981. He has won 30 tournaments on the Japan Golf Tour, ranking fifth on the career list. He ranks seventh on the career money list with earnings of just over 1 billion yen (about $8 million U.S. dollars).
Has served as Chairman of PGA of Japan since 2014 and is a past leading money-winner on the Japan PGA Tour. Combines his duties as chairman with competing. In 1981, he made as electrifying debut as a professional with five victories on the Japan Golf Tour, ranking second on the Japan Golf Tour money list.
Earned fully-exempt status for the 2006 Champions Tour by earning medalist honors at the 2005 Champions Tour National Qualifying Tournament. Finished the six-round event at 3-under par and two strokes in front of the runner-up. Played full time on the Champions Tour from 2006 to 2008. In 74 events, his best finish was fourth in the 2006 Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.
Was also the medalist at the PGA Tour National Qualifying Tournament in 1992 and played on the PGA Tour in 1993. Played in 62 events on the PGA Tour, and his best finish was a T-4th at the 1993 Southern Farm Bureau Classic and the 1982 British Open, which was also his best finish in a major championship.
Underwent open-heart surgery in 2000 to correct mitral valve prolapse.
Won twice on the Japan Seniors Tour in 2010, at the Japan Senior Open Golf Championship and at the Handa Cup Senior Masters, finishing first on the tour's season-ending money list. Also won the 2014 Japan Senior Open. and has played some on the European Senior Tour, where he won the 2011 Handa Cup Senior Masters and 2012 Van Lanschot Senior Open.
In 2015, he played in the Senior PGA Championship, finishing T-34th.
