Matilda Castren

She was born in New York City to Finnish parents and moved to Finland at a young age. Her father worked for a Finnish bank while living in the United States. She started playing golf at the age of five. Castren won the 2011 Doral Publix Junior Classic in the U.S. and the 2013 Skandia Junior Open in Sweden and was runner-up at the 2013 Portuguese Ladies Amateur. She represented Finland in 2011, 2012, and 2013 European Girls' Team Championship, 2014, 2015, and 2016 European Ladies' Team Championship, and at the 2014 and 2016 Espirito Santo Trophy. She was also on the winning Vagliano Trophy team in 2017.
Castren played college golf at Florida State University beginning in 2014 and graduated in May 2017 with a degree in International Affairs after winning seven individual titles in collegiate competition during her time with the Florida State Seminoles women's golf team, a school record. She was named second-Team All-American by the Women's Golf Coaches Association and Golfweek in 2014 and was a three-time All-ACC selection (2014, 2016, and 2017) as one of only three players in school history. She set a school record for the lowest career stroke average (72.52) over her four-year varsity career.
Castren played two seasons on the Symetra Tour in 2018 and 2019 before she finished T-26th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn her card for the 2020 LPGA Tour.
2020 Notes: Played in 9 LPGA Tour events making six cuts. She was 82nd on the money list with $112,105. She was 77th on the CME points list. Best finish T-8th at the LPGA Drive On Championship Reynolds Lake Oconee. Also played in five Symetra Tour events, she won the Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship.
2021 Notes: Played in 18 LPGA Tour events making 14 cuts with two top-ten finishes. She was 27th on the CME points list and 32nd on the money list earning 618,657. She got her first LPGA victory at the LPGA Mediheal Championship, beating Min Lee by two shots. The victory was the first in the LPGA by a player representing Finland. She was 2nd in the Volunteers of America Classic, finishing one shot back of winner Jin Young Ko. She won the Gant Ladies Open in Finland by three shots over Tvesa Malik and Ursula Wikstrom. Despite not being a member of the LET, the win qualified her for the Solheim Cup, she had a 3-1-0 record beating Lizette Salas in the singles 1 up. She qualified for the Tokyo Olympics as a member of Finland's team, finishing T-18th. She ended her season, finishing T-55th in the CME Group Tour Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 25 LPGA events making 18 cuts with four top-ten finishes. She was 57th in the CME Globe rankings and 54th on the money list earning $526,176. In the first event of the season was T-10th at the Hilton Tournament of Champions. With partner Kelly Tan, finished 2nd at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, five shots back of the winners Jennifer Kupcho and Lizette Salas. Ended the season, finishing 52nd at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2023 Notes: Agained partnered with Kelly Tans at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, and they finished 2nd, one shot back of the winners Cheyenne Knight/Elizabeth Szokol.
