With her father, Bob, an Air Force general, Nancy Taylor grew up traveling the world and moving over 20 times while she was growing up. Taylor started playing golf when she was 16 years old. She graduated high school in the Republic of Korea after spending her three previous years in Hawaii. She went on to play at Arizona State where she joined the team as a walk-on.
In 1982, Taylor won the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, defeating Kerri Clark, 2 and 1 at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kansas. At the time, she became the oldest champion in a championship that was inaugurated five years earlier. After capturing the championship, Taylor became a scholarship athlete and went on to earn all-conference honors. At the 1983 Women's Amateur Public Links, she finished runner-up to Kelli Antolock.
After graduating from Arizona State, Taylor turned professional and moved to Tampa, Florida, and tried her hand on the Futures Tour. She finished second at Qualifying School in 1986 to earn her LPGA Tour card. Her professional career continued for 13 years until 1998, with her best finish a runner-up coming at the 1987 Jamie Farr Toledo Classic. When she retired from competitive golf, she had registered seven top-20 finishes in 210 events.
Taylor became a golf instructor with the Ben Sutton Golf School in Ruskin, Fla., working at the school from 1992 through 1997 during the LPGA Tour's offseason. A year later, Taylor became the associate director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Golf Ministry in Ponte Vedra, Fla., a role that lasted until 2000. After serving as an instructor for the Dana Rader Golf School in Charlotte, N.C., in 2000 and 2001, she played in 26 LPGA Pro-Am events. Three years later, she joined the golf shop operations and instructional arm of Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation, where she remained until 2011.
She became the volunteer assistant golf coach at Winthrop University in 2010 and stayed for two years, before taking an associate women's head golf coach position at Queens University of Charlotte. Taylor returned to Winthrop in 2016 and currently serves as the volunteer assistant golf coach for the Eagles.
