Oskar Arvidsson

The little-known Swede was the surprise winner at Gailes Links, firing a bogey-free opening-round 64 on his way to finishing four clear of the chasing pack. Ranked 1418th in the world, Arvidsson posted three top-20 finishes in as many weeks at the start of the Asian Development Tour season, but hasn't registered one since. Arvidsson spent four years at the University of Denver and after graduating, came back to Europe to get ready to play professionally. Arvidsson failed at the first qualifying stage in his efforts to reach this year's European Tour, then played in Asia. After Arvidsson had a tough winter on the Asian Development Tour, he returned home to Sweden and went to work with his coach Richard Tornqvist at Gulbringa G.& C.C. After weeks of practice and trying to find the right formula and mental improvement, Arvidsson realized that since his long game is his strength, he can shoot reaally low scores if he works harder on chipping and putting which he did.
All of that effort worked as in his first hole in qualifying at Gailes Links, he drove the first green and made the eagle. He played 30 holes before he made his first and only bogey as he was four better than Scott Fernandez, who was second. After the round he said that it felt great, but he was having trouble understanding what he had done. The next day he traveled to Troon and played 12 holes before returning home. He said of the day that the course suits him and it's just about handling the press and the mental part.
