Phillip Archer

He began playing as a nine-year-old at Birchwood Golf Club, where his father, Derek, was a founder member. He turned professional in 1991 and entered the Qualifying School each year between 1994 and 2003, gaining his card in 1999 and 2002. Also found his way onto The European Tour through the Challenge Tour in 2004, thanks to a victory in the Rolex Trophy that season. He finished a career-high 29th in the 2007 Order of Merit, a season when he narrowly missed his maiden title with three-second places, including losing a play-off for the Omega European Masters title when Brett Rumford chipped in. He has made a habit of successfully getting through qualifying for the Majors, a feat he achieved for the US Open in 2006 and 2008. I was back at Qualifying School â?? Final Stage in 2009, coming tied 12th to secure a card for 2010. In 2011, he claimed his second Challenge Tour victory at the windswept ALLIANZ Open Cotes d'Armor Bretagne, while his third wind also came in strong winds at the inaugural Pacific Rubiales Colombia Classic in 2012. He enjoyed a fine week at the inaugural 2014 Made in Denmark on The European Tour â?? finishing third behind eventual winner Marc Warren and Bradley Dredge in testing conditions. A fan of all sports and an accomplished snooker player, he is also a keen supporter of Manchester United. He was coached by Mark Pearson.
In his career, he played in 154 Challenge Tour events making 92 cuts with 20 top-ten finishes. He won three times and earned euro293,313 in seven years on that tour.
He played on the DP World Tour in 2000, '03, '05, '06, '07, '08, '09, and 2014. He played in 247 events making 124 cuts with 13 top-ten finishes. His best season was in 2007; he played in 33 events making 22 cuts and earning euro903,377, which was 29th on the money list. He was 2nd three times. Valle Romano Open de Andalucia, Omega European Masters, and Mercedes-Benz Championship.
On turning 50 in 2002, he played in seven Legends Tour events with six top-ten finishes. Best was 2nd at the WINSTONGolf Senior Open, losing a playoff to Richard Green, who won with a birdie on the fifth extra hole.
2023 Notes: Finished 4th at the Riegler & Partner Legends, two shots back of the Adilson DaSilva/Keith Horne playoff.
