Prayad Marksaeng

Learned to play golf in Hua Hin as he had to walk through a golf course daily to get to school, and his first club was made with bamboo and a piece of scrap metal. Tipped by Greg Norman to be a world-class player after the Aussie played alongside him in the Dubai Desert Classic in 1996. Norman again was impressed when the two played together in the BMW Asian Open in 2004. He is known for his laid-back character.
Prayad claimed the biggest win of his career when he lifted the season-ending Volvo Masters of Asia trophy on home soil in 2007. Prayad survived a shaky finish before beating Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines by one stroke after making a birdie on the 18 hole, the only player to do so in the final round. It capped another fine season for Prayad, who registered six other top-10 finishes en route to finishing fifth on the Order of Merit.
Owes his success to his mentor, Supphaporn Maphungphong, who died in November 2007.
Plays both on the Asian Tour and the Japan Golf Tour, best year on Asian Tour 1997 when he finished 2nd on the money list with $123,806 with two wins. Next best year came in 2007 when he finished 5th on the money list with $358,623 and one win.
In 2016 played in nine Asian Tour events, best finish T-8th Queen's Cup finishing 39th on the order of merit with $116,081. Also played a full schedule on the Japan Senior circuit and won four times, Maruhan Cup Taiheiyo Club Senior, Komatsu Open, Japan Senior Open, Japan PGA Senior Championship. Played in nine Japan Senior Tour events in 2016 and led that tour's order of merit with $523,006 in earnings.
In 2017 played in 20 events around the world, winning the 2017 SMBC Singapore Open for his 10th title, eight days before turning 51.
Also, in 2017 played twice and won twice on the Japan Senior Tour at the 2017 Sumida Cup Senior Golf Tournament, 18th Starts Senior Golf Tournament. Those two events has earnings of $201,550.
Won five times on the Japan Senior Tour in 2018.
