Richard Gilkey

Gilkey got his start in golf at the age of 12 when his stepfather took him to a golf course. He won back-to-back Kern County Amateur Championships in 1983 and 1984.
He played on the Web.Com Tour in 1997, best finish was a T-14th Dakota Dunes Open. Also was T-14th in the 1993 Bakersfield Open. He was runner up in the 1989 New Zealand Open.
At the time, he was married with three young sons at home and decided to give up the game and stay home with the family. Got his first job at a Video City store before getting back into golf and went to work as an assistant at Rio Bravo C.C. in Bakersfield. At the same time he got the itch to play on the PGA Tour but getting there has proved unsuccessful. Gilkey has played on a lot of mini-tours. He also has played in Canada and Australia. His son, Rich, played collegiate golf at Fresno State and competed in the 2015 U.S. Amateur.
Gilkey is currently part of the Ladbrokes Legends Tour in Australia after finishing third in qualifying school in January 2019 to earn his card for this season.
