Robert Sheats

Got started playing golf at the age of 5 when his dad, a lawyer, took him out and played together. His main sport as a kid was baseball and he received a partial scholarship to play baseball at Mercer University. At the same time still played golf, between 13 and 19 years old played mostly by himself trying to shoot par as a goal. At Mercer, he realized that he wasn't good enough in baseball and thought it would be wiser to pursue business. He transferred to the University of Georgia and got a business degree in 1988.
After he graduated, he went door to door selling copier machines and then went to Ashford Advisors, where today he is a field representative assisting people with financial planning.
Sheats has played in three U.S. Mid-Amateurs, made it into match play once in 2002 at Stanwich, lost to John Kemp 1 up in the first round. Has tried two other times to get into the U.S. Senior Open and the third time was the charm.
