Roger Newsom

Began playing the game around the age of 4 years old and credits his father for introducing him to the game.
Dr. Newsom is a board-certified eye surgeon in Hampton Roads and is an Ophthalmologist specializing in laser and refractive cataract surgery along with being a member of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He currently resides in Virginia Beach with his wife Susan and their four daughters: Megan, Caroline, Emily and Julia.
His brother Tim is the PGA Professional and Director of Golf at Riverfront Golf Club in Suffolk, Va.
Played in the 2014 George L. Coleman Mid-Amateur and finished 5th after carding rounds of 74-73-72. Finished 12th in the event in 2013 and 6th in 2012. Also during the 2012 amateur season, Newsom won the Eastern Amateur held at Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club where he won by four strokes after shooting a four day total of 14-under par. In 2011, Newsom won the SunTrust State Open of Virginia by an impressive eight strokes after shooting scores of 65-67-67-71. That was his second career Virginia State Open win as he was the champion in 2008.
Played in the 2007 and 2010 U.S. Mid-Amateur and played in the 2012 USGA State Team Championship for Virginia.
In 2018 was the quarterfinalist at the VSGA Senior Amateur Championship. Also T-23rd at the VSGA Mid-Amateur Championship and T-8th at the Stocker Cup Championship.
