Sam Locke

Locke was introduced to golf at the age of three by his father, Andrew Locke, a PGA professional who also used to coach 1999 Open champion, Paul Lawrie.
In 2017, Sam emulated the achievement of Colin Montgomerie 30 years previous to storm to glory in the Scottish Men's Amateur Championship at Prestwick. Aged only 18, he achieved his biggest success in the game after thumping Ryan Lumsden 9&8. The last winner to achieve such a margin of victory in the 36-hole final was Montgomerie at Nairn in 1987. Locke, who is coached by his dad Andrew and is part of the Paul Lawrie Foundation, raced to a 5 up lead after nine holes before birdieing five of the last eight holes to remarkably lead 10 up at lunch. Sam, who was on the books of Banchory GC as a junior and now plays out of Stonehaven GC, also tasted a team triumph on home soil with North East in 2017 at the GolfKings-sponsored event at Newmachar.
Locke, who was a month shy of his first birthday when Paul Lawrie clinched the Claret Jug in 1999, did work part-time in Lawrie's cafe at Paul's Aberdeenshire golf center. "He's a great lad, a joy to work with, he works hard and works in the coffee shop to earn enough money to play," said Lawrie before Locke played at Carnoustie.
He was the only amateur to qualify in 2018 through Final Qualifying and joined three other amateurs in the field at Carnoustie. He just made the cut, after rounds of 72 and 73, the only amateur to do so, and won the Silver Medal as the leading amateur after further rounds of 70 and 78 to finish T-75th. He turned professional after playing at Carnoustie. Unfortunately, as a professional he has struggled in getting into events on the European and Challenge Tours. "My time will come, I've just got to stay patient and hopefully it will come sooner rather than later," Locke told a reporter for BBC.com. In order to play more he is starting to play EuroPro.
Locke's father Andrew, who caddied for him last year at Carnoustie will again caddie for his son at Royal Portrush.
2019 Notes: On the ProGolf Tour missed the cut at the Open Casa Green Golf, T-27th at the Open Prestigia and T-40th at the Open Palmeraie. On the Challenge Tour missed the cut at the Prague Golf Challenge.
