Toby Tree

Earned his first start in The Open by sharing second place with Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter in the 36-hole Final Qualifying event at Woburn on July 4. They finished six under par, two behind winner Shiv Kapur, and would have been in a play-off for the third and final spot but for Swede Jens Dantorp receiving a two-stroke penalty for having one too many clubs in his bag on the opening hole. Tree won the 2014 Welsh amateur championship and turned professional at the end of that season, but has been playing mostly on the European Challenge Tour and in Africa and went into the qualifier ranked 689th in the world. His best finishes so far this year were his joint fifth place at the Dimension Data Pro-am in South Africa and eighth at the Zimbabwe Open. He won the England Under-16 title in 2010 and earned international amateur honours at boy and senior level.
