Tyson Alexander

Became the third generation of this family to earn a berth in a U.S. Open, following his father Buddy Alexander, the former head coach at Florida, and his grandfather, Skip Alexander. Skip played in the U.S. Open five times between 1946 and 1950, finishing as high as 11th (1948), and was a two-time member of the USA Ryder Cup Team. Buddy won the U.S. Amateur in 1986 to qualify for his first U.S. Open; also qualified for 1994 Open at Oakmont and was a member of the winning 1987 USA Walker Cup Team. He coached the Florida Gators golf team for 27 years, winning the NCAA Division I championships in 1993 and 2001.
As an amateur, Alexander won the 2009 Azalea Invitational and was a three-time U.S. Amateur qualifier (2004, 2007, 2008). He was also runner-up in the 2006 Florida Junior Championship and in 2005, he won the Southern Junior Championship and the Alachua County Amateur. Alexander was named the Gainesville Sun Player of the Year in 2004.
Played college golf at the University of Florida, where he was a four-time SEC Academic All-American. Turned pro in 2010 and his first victory came in the 2012 NGA Hooters Tour Killearn Country Club Classic in Tallahassee, Fla.
In 2014, he made his first career start on the Web.com Tour at the News Sentinel Open, but missed the cut. He won the NGA Hooters Tour Ocala/Marion County Classic in Florida.
2017 Notes: Earned conditional status on PGA Tour Latinoamerica with a T-10th finish at the U.S. Q-School in Sebring, Fla. Played 14 events making 8 cuts. Best finish was 3rd at the Flor de Cana Open, 4 shots back of the Buttacavoli/Davan playoff. Finished the year 36th in the Order of Merit with earnings of $28,042. He also played in the U.S. Open, missed the cut and was T-32nd at the Nashville Golf Open on the Web.Com Tour.
2018 Notes: Started his year on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica tour, played in 16 events making 16 cuts. Won the Costa Rica Classic beating Chris Killmer and Eric Steger in a playoff. Was 7th in the Order of Merit making $79,504. Played in 4 Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada best finish T-43rd at the Windsor Championship. At the end of the year made it through Web.Com Tour Q-School finishing T-125th.
