Andy Sullivan

Sullivan might name Johannesburg, South Africa, as his favorite city after claiming his first two European Tour titles there in the space of eight weeks in early 2015. First, he won the South African Open Championship in January, defeating home favorite Charl Schwartzel in a playoff with a birdie from 10 feet after an approach from the rough. He then doubled his haul at the beginning of March, when he won by two shots at the Joburg Open, thanks to a final-round 66.
Sullivan will remember 2014 for the hole-in-one at the KLM Open and his rise to the top level of the game was equally meteoric.
He turned professional in 2011 after representing Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, where he won both of his foursomes match. At the end of that year, he earned a debut campaign on the European Tour by taking the third card at the Qualifying School Final Stage, having successfully negotiated the Second Stage the week before. Was back at the Qualifying School Final Stage in 2012 after finishing 145th in the Race to Dubai, and again took the third card at the end of a steady week.
He won titles in a stellar amateur career across the globe, including Argentina, Australia and at the Scottish Amateur Open Stroke Play Championship. Sullivan is close friends with Steve Webster, having been born and raised in the same town of Nuneaton, and cites fellow Midlands golfer Lee Westwood as his chief inspiration.
2013 Notes: In his first full year on the European Tour, started with four top-12s in his first eight starts. For the year, posted three top-10s, a T-3rd at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, T-9th at the Qatar Masters and T-5th at the Africa Open. Finished 98th in the Race to Dubai.
2014 Notes: Added five more top-10s to his collection, the best being a runner-up finish at the Trophee Hassan. Also had a 3rd at the KLM Open, T-4th at the Turkish Airlines Open, T-5th at the Joburg Open and T-8th at the Joburg Open.
2015 Notes: Came within a shot of tying Rory McIlroy at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship. Despite settling for 2nd, the performance capped a great year in which he won his first three European Tour titles. Triumphed twice in as many months at Johannesburg, first capturing the South African Open Championship, where he beat Charl Schwartzel in a playoff by holing a 10-foot birdie putt. Added the Joburg Open eight weeks later by two shots over Anthony Wall, David Howell, Jaco Van Zyl, Wallie Coetsee and Kevin Phelan. Those victories help him climb into the top 60 of the world ranking, which qualified him to play his first major at the U.S. Open. Also played at the British Open and PGA Championship. Posted a pair of T-6th finishes at the Irish and French Opens. He earned one more title in October, a nine-shot victory at the Portugal Masters, where he equaled the lowest total of the season at 261. With his runner-up at the DP World Tour Championship to end the season, he finished 8th in the Race to Dubai.
2016 Notes: Showed that he likes Dubai. Two months after ending the year with a T-2nd at the DP World Tour event, he finished runner-up at the Dubai Desert Classic, a shot behind Danny Willett. His next top-10 was a T-5th at the French Open. Was T-6th at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, T-12th at the British Open. After a T-49th at the PGA Championship, moved to finish up on the European Tour. Was 2nd at the Portugal Masters, one behind winner Padraig Harrington then was T-3rd at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. In 25 European Tour starts, had five top-10s and was 14th in the Race to Dubai. Made his first start at the Ryder Cup, went 0-2 in the European team's 17-11 loss to the United States at Hazeltine.
2017 Notes: Played in 24 European Tour events making 19 cuts, he was in the top-ten, twice. Finished 62nd in the Race to Dubai. Had a slow start, didn't have his first and top-ten until he finished T-8th at the Nordea Masters. A month later had a T-9th at the Scottish Open.
2018 Notes: Played in 26 European Tour events making 25 cuts with eight top-ten finishes. Was T-6th at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, then T-7th at the Trophee Hassan II then T-3rd at the Rocco Forte Sicilian Open. Had his 4th top-ten with a T-5th at the Italian Open, then T-9th at the BMW International. His 7th top-ten of the year came at the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open a T-6th which earned him his Open Championship berth. He missed the cut at Carnoustie. He was T-10th at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and T-9th at the Sky Sports British Masters. He earned euro1,213,582 and finished 29th in the Race to Dubai.
2019 Notes: Played in 24 European Tour events making 17 cuts with four top-ten finishes. Was 44th in the Race to Dubai and earned euro1,046,111. Was T-7th at the Maybank Championship. Shot a pair of 66s over the weekend to finish T-2nd at the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open, it was his best finish since his 2nd at the 2016 Portugal Masters. Was T-8th at the Portugal Masters and T-10th at the DP World Tour Championship.
2020 Notes: Played in 18 European Tour events making 15 cuts with seven top-ten finishes. Was 12th in the Race to Dubai and he earned euro907,814. Was T-10th at the DP World Tour Championship.
2021 Notes: Best finish T-6th at the Betfred British Masters. Also T-5th in the BMW International, six shots back of the winner.
