C.T. Pan

Cheng Tsung Pan is the youngest of six children (four sisters and a brother). He started playing golf at age 5 and was introduced to the game by his mother, who was a caddie at a local golf course. Became the youngest U.S. Amateur quarterfinalist since Bobby Jones in 2007 at the age of 15. He was the youngest medalist in Western Amateur history in 2009 and repeated as medalist at the event in 2010. Lost to eventual champion Peter Uihlein in the round of 64 at the 2010 U.S. Amateur at Chambers Bay.
Also played at the 2008 U.S. Amateur. Advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2009 U.S. Junior Amateur. Finished 3rd at the 2010 Scratch Players Championship. Was born and raised in Chinese Taipei before moving to the United States in 2007 to pursue golf. Attended the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Won a silver medal at the 2006 Asian Games. Won 2007 Naples Beach Open and 2008 Mission Inn-Las Colinas Open. Was runner-up at the 2008 IMGA/DLGA Championship.
Played college golf at the University of Washington from 2011-15, named to the 2015 and '13 first-team PING All-America, and 2012 second team. Was a Ben Hogan Award semifinalist and All-Pac-12 selection in 2012 and '13. Also 2012 NGCA All-Freshman Team and 2013 Honorable Mention Pac-12 All-Academic. Finished 2nd individually at the 2015 NCAA Championships.
Pan played at the 2013 U.S. Open, where he finished T-45th and the 2014 British Open, but missed the cut after shooting opening rounds of 74-74.
2015 Notes: Made his professional debut at the U.S. Open, where he made the cut and finished T-64th. Played the Travelers Championship the following week on a sponsor's exemption and finished T-25th. With rounds of 67-71-73-68, finished T-5th at the Canada Qualifying Tournament, earning exempt status through the first six events. Made his Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada debut at the SIGA Dakota Dunes Open and was T-26th. Entered the final round of The Players Cup three strokes off the lead, but fired a final-round, five-under 66 to win his first professional event by two strokes. Departed to his native Chinese Taipei after the Staal Foundation Open to serve 12 days in the military. Returned to the Mackenzie Tour at The Great Waterway Classic, opening with an 8-under 64 to share the first-round lead before finishing T-11th. Was T-3rd at The Wildfire Invitational, thanks to rounds of 64-68-68-68. At the Cape Breton Celtic Classic, birdied the final five holes, including a chip-in at the 18th, to get into a playoff where he defeated Taylor Pendrith on the second extra hole. Finished second on the Order of Merit to earn Korn Ferry Tour status for 2016.
2016 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments Entered - 22; In Money - 16; Top-10 Finishes - 7; Scoring Average - 69.13 (rank 5th); Money - $204,075 (rank 11th); Best Finish - 2nd at Lecom Health Challenge after losing to Rick Lamb in a four-man playoff. Locked up his PGA Tour card for the 2017 season with an 11th-place finish on the 2016 Web.com Tour Regular Season money list. Finished 20th in the final priority-ranking order. Represented his native Chinese Taipei at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, finishing T-30th in the 60-player field. Finished T-19th at the ISPS Handa World Cup of Golf with Chan Shih-chang at Kingston Heath Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia, in late-November.
2017 Notes: In his rookie season on the PGA Tour, played in 29 events, making 14 cuts with three top-10 finishes. Earned his first top-10 of the season with a T-6th finish at The RSM Classic. In his first start at the Farmers Insurance Open, posted scores of 70-69-69-70--278 (-10) to become one of just three players to shoot four sub-par scores at Torrey Pines (Ollie Schniederjans, Robert Streb). His 10-under 278 was good for a T-2nd finish with Charles Howell III, three behind winner Jon Rahm. Was T-8th at the Travelers Champions came after missing six cuts in his previous seven starts. One of 12 rookies to advance to the FedExCup playoffs, where he played twice, finishing T-49th at the Northern Trust and T-47th at the Dell Technologies Championship.
2018 Notes: Played in 30 PGA Tour events, making 22 cuts with two top-10 finishes. Despite having eight top-25 finishes, he didn't record his first top-10 until the regular season's last event, finishing T-2nd at the Wyndham Championship. Coming to the 72nd hole tied for the lead, Pan hit his tee shot out of bounds and made double-bogey 6 to finish three strokes behind winner Brandt Snedeker. In the FedExCup playoffs, moved up 39 spots to 33rd with a T-4th finish at the Dell Technologies Championship, reaching the BMW Championship for the first time. After a T-38th finish at the BMW Championship, he ended his year 35th in the FedExCup standings.
2019 Notes: Played in 25 PGA Tour events, making 17 cuts with two top-10 finishes. Was 37th in the FedExCup standings. Struggled the first part of the year and had only three top-25 finishes that all came in the fall swing. After missing the cut at the Valero Texas Open, was 112th in the FedExCup standings. Entered the final round of the RBC Heritage two strokes behind leader Dustin Johnson, and when Johnson imploded on the back nine, Pan shot a 67 and won by a stroke over Matt Kuchar. The win came in his 79th PGA Tour start at the age of 27 years, 5 months, 9 days, making him the second player from Chinese Taipei to win on the PGA Tour (T.C.Chen, 1987 L.A. Open). Was T-3rd at the Charles Schwab Challenge, five strokes behind winner Kevin Na. In the FedExCup playoffs, finished T-24th at the Northern Trust and T-31st at the BMW Championship. Made his first start at the Presidents Cup, played in three matches with a 2-1 record. He lost his singles match to Patrick Reed 4 & 2.
2020 Notes: Played in 19 PGA Tour events, making nine cuts with one top-25 finish. Ranked 178th in the FedExCup standings. Best finish, T-11th Mayakoba Golf Classic.
2021 Notes: Finished T-7th at the Masters Tournament in November in his tournament debut. Marked his first career top-10 in a major championship. Earned his best result on the PGA Tour since the 2019 season with a T-3rd at The Honda Classic, six shots back of winner Matt Jones. Shot the lowest score of any player in the field in the third round 65.
