David Lipsky

Lipsky was born in Los Angeles, California, to Aaron Lipsky and Yon Suk Lipsky, who is from Korea. His parents introduced him to golf when he was 10 years old. He lived in La Canada Flintridge, California, and in high school at La Canada High School, at which he was a 4.0 student, Lipsky won the 2003 Ashworth Postseason at Mission Hills, the 2004 Junior Tour Championship played at PGA West, and the Rio Hondo High School League Tournament in 2004 and 2005. He was named Los Angeles all-Southern Section in 2004 and '06, MVP of the Rio Hondo League in 2004 and 2005, and First-team all-Los Angeles Area in 2005, while averaging a score of 36 in his last two seasons in high school. He graduated in 2006.
Lipsky played college golf at Northwestern University, which he attended on a partial scholarship and at which he majored in political science and history. He also caddied throughout college. In addition, he was also a member of the Rho Chapter of Beta Theta Pi.
In 2007, '08, he had a number one finish with a 139 at the Notre Dame Invitational and won the Jacksonville Dual Match with a 68. Lipsky had a 74.47 stroke average. In 2008 and '09, he was All-Big Ten second-team, Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) PING All-Region, and Academic All-Big Ten.
In 2009 and '10 Lipsky won the 2010 Big Ten individual championship with a 72-hole total of 3-under 281. He was All-Big Ten first-team, GCAA PING All-Midwest Region, and All-Academic Big Ten. He had a 71.88 stroke average, the sixth-best season average in school history.
In 2010 and '11, at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate, he scored a 68-68-66 for a 14-under-par 202, tying Luke Donald's 54-hole tournament score school record. Lipsky was honored as All-American, GCAA PING All-America honorable mention, All-Big Ten first team, GCAA PING All-Region, Big Ten All-Championships Team, and Academic All-Big Ten. He had a 72.02 stroke average in the regular season, seventh-best in school season history, and ended with a career 72.97 stroke average, the fourth-best in school history behind Luke Donald, Tom Johnson, and Jess Daley. He turned professional after graduating in 2011.
He signed up for the Asian Tour Qualifying School after receiving advice from Ben Fox and Charlie Wi, both former Asian Tour regulars. Studied at the Northwestern University in Chicago where he majored in political science. Credited former world number one Luke Donald for giving him encouragement when he won the Qualifying School.
David became the first Asian Tour member to win the Omega European Masters in Switzerland after defeating Graeme Storm on the first playoff hole in 2014. He also enjoyed four other top-10s including a second place finish at The Championship in Singapore to cap a successful year where he was crowned the 2014 Asian Tour Order of Merit champion. Lipsky signaled his arrival on the Asian Tour by winning the 2012 Asian Tour Qualifying School Final Stage. He subsequently went on to win the HANDA FALDO Cambodian Classic with a playoff victory over Filipino Elmer Salvador, chipping in for birdie in the first extra hole. David rode on his form to finish second and third in his next two events at the ISPS Handa Singapore Open and Maybank Malaysian Open. Also finished top-five in the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship in Taipei and Mercuries Taiwan Masters to ensure a highly successful first season in Asia. Played mainly on the Web.Com Tour in 2013 before returning to Asia towards the end of the season.
2014 Notes: Along with his win at the Omega European Masters, he was runner-up in The Championship at Laguna National earlier in the season and finished 58th in The Race to Dubai from just 12 events. He also had five top-tens in winning the Asian Tour order of merit.
2015 Notes: Played in 28 European Tour events making 16 cuts and 1, top-ten which came late in the year with a T-3rd at the Italian Open. Went on to finish 77th in the Race to Dubai with euros421,086 in earnings.
2016 Notes: Played in 30 European Tour events making 21 cuts with 7, top-tens with 4 of them coming in his last 11 starts of the year. Best finish was T-3rd at Made In Denmark, he also was T-5th at the Portugal Masters and T-6th in the Turkish Airlines Open. With the strong late in the season play was able to finish 47th in the Race to Dubai with euros774,529 in earnings his best season to date on the European Tour.
2017 Notes: Played in 23 European Tour events making 17 cuts with four top-tens. Continued his good play at the beginning of the season with a 5th at the UBS Hong Kong Open. Was runner-up at the Maybank Championship just a shot back of winner Fabrizio Zanotti. Added top-tens with a T-5th at the Shenzhen International and T-10th at the BMW International. Finished 46th in the Race to Dubai.
2018 Notes: Played in 25 European Tour events making 17 cuts with one top-ten. Best finish was T-6th at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Was 95th in the Race to Dubai.
2019 Notes: Clinched his second European Tour title at the beginning of the 2019 season at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in his debut appearance at the event. Was T-10th in the WGC-Mexico Championship. 5th in the Trophee Hassan II, then the next week was T-5th at the Volvo China Open, five shots back of the Korhonen/Hebert playoff.
