Roberto Castro

Castro, born in Houston, Texas, is the nephew of former LPGA Tour golfer Jenny Lidback. He has two younger brothers, both of whom played collegiate golf, including Alex, who competed for Georgia State University from 2007-'11, and the youngest Castro brother, Franco, who began his career at LSU before transferring to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2012. Castro played at Georgia Tech, where he was named first-team All-American in 2005, second-team All-American in 2007 and honorable-mention All-American in 2004 and '06. He was named to the All-ACC team every year during his four years at Georgia Tech and was named ACC Rookie of the Year in 2004. He won one collegiate event, the 2007 Puerto Rico Classic and received the 2007 Byron Nelson Award, which is given to the nation's top senior golfer.
In 2005, Castro captained the USA Team at the Palmer Cup, defeating Europe. He also played for the 2006 team that lost.
Castro competed on the eGolf Professional Tour from 2007 -'10 and won five events during that time. He played in 12 events on the Web.com Tour in 2010 and recorded a runner-up finish at the Wichita Open. In his first full year on the Web.com Tour, 2011, he had four top-10 finishes and placed 23rd on the money list, good enough to earn a PGA Tour card for 2012. He also tied for 13th at Qualifying School, improving his status.

2012 Notes: As a rookie on the PGA Tour, he recorded a top-10, T-7th at Greenbrier, and five top-25s. He finished 77th in the FedExCup and 118th on the money list with winnings of $755,095.
2013 Notes: In his first 14 events, his best finish was T-21st in Tampa. He opened The Players Championship with a 63rd and finished T-19th. Five starts later, he finished 2nd at the AT&T National, having led after the first round and co-led going into the final round. After three more starts, he finished T-6th at RBC Canadian Open, then T-12th at the PGA Championship. He played in all four FedExCup Playoff events, finishing T-25th at Barclays, T-9th at Deutsche Bank, 15th at BMW and T-9th at the Tour Championship. He finished the year 21st in the FedExCup race and 29th on the money list.
2014 Notes: He had one top-10, a T-8th at the Wells Fargo, where he finished eight under par. He finished 135th in the FedExCup race, forcing him to play in the Web.com Tour finals in order to regain exempt Tour status. He made the cut in the first event, the Hotel Fitness Championship (T-41st), and followed it with a T-10th at the second event, the Chiquita Classic, to get in the middle of the battle for a Tour card. A T-60th at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship left him 41st on the priority ranking with one event to play. He ultimately finished T-40th at the Web.com Tour Championship, which dropped him one outside the cut line, at 51st. Only $31.66 separated him and No. 50 Eric Axley.
2015 Notes: In 16 starts, made 11 cuts with a T-23rd at the Barbasol Championship his only top-25 finish. Failed to get into the FedExCup Playoffs, finishing 188th in the standings. In the Web.com Tour Finals, made the cut in all four events, posting a T-44th at the Small Business Connection, T-9th at the Small Business Connection Championship and a T-2nd at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship, where he led by two entering the final day following rounds of 70-68-68 at the difficult Ohio State University Scarlet Course. A four-over-par 75 Sunday that included a three-over 38 on the incoming nine doomed his chance at victory. Would finish two shots behind winner Andrew Loupe. At the Web.com Tour Championship, was T-56th after consecutive rounds of 70. Shot a course-record-tying 62 Sunday, which moved him to T-10th. Was 10th in the final priority-ranking order.
2016 Notes: Opened with a 62 at the Sanderson Farms Championship and led after the first and second rounds. Held a four-shot lead after 36 holes before a lengthy weather delay resulted in Monday play. He finished T-4th. Was T-8th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Was runner-up at the Wells Fargo Championship, losing a playoff with James Hahn. His next top-10 result was 3rd at the BMW Championship. With the finish, he climbed from 53rd to 21st in the FedExCup standings to advance to the Tour Championship. Finished T-17th at East Lake. Was 22nd in the FedExCup race and 34th on the money list.
2017 Notes: Struggled most of the year in 25 PGA Tour starts only made 10 cuts, best finish was T-20th at the Greenbrier Classic. Was 172nd in the FedExCup race and in 3 Web.Com Tour final events did finish T-8th at the Web.Com Tour Championship but was 55th on the finals priority ranking, losing his PGA Tour card.
2018 Web.com Summary: Tournaments Entered - 14; Rounds Played - 53; In Money - 13; Top-10 Finishes - 5; Scoring Average - 69.32 (Rank 7th); Regular Season Money - $172,054 (Rank 24th); Priority Rank - 47; Best Finish - T-2nd, Savannah Golf Championship. His ranking of 47th on the final priority ranking order secured his PGA Tour card for 2019.
2019 Notes: Was T-5th at the Sanderson Farms Championship and Zurich Classic of New Orleans with partner Cameron Tringale.
