Christa Johnson

Born in Arcata, Calif., Johnson won the 1975 Northern California Junior Girls Championship and was honored as a member of the Northern California International Junior Cup Team. She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, where she was an All-American from 1979-80 for the Wildcats.
In 1980, finished 6th at the July qualifying event to earn exempt status for the remainder of the season and for 1981.
She was a full-time member of the LPGA Tour between 1980 and 2008. She played in 660 events, making 471 cuts. She was in the Top 10 102 times and won nine times. Her best year was in 1997 when she had 15 top-ten finishes, including winning the McDonald LPGA Championship and the Safeway LPGA Golf Championship. She was also runner-up at the Friendly's Classic and third in two events. She won $722,330 which placed 4th on the money list. In her career, she won $3,676,181. She played in the 1998 Solheim Cup and had a 0-2-1 record. In 1986, Johnson won back-to-back events in Phoenix and Tucson and said, "this makes living, eating, drinking and breathing golf worthwhile."
Johnson resides in Arizona with husband, Duane A. Bernard, CEO of Phoenix Health Services, and former CEO of Specialty Health and St. Catherine Healthcare, whom she married in March 2007.
Even though she is no longer on tour, the fire inside burns. That's why she loves playing in senior events and works on her game. She has won four times on the Legends Tour; 2011 Patty Sheehan & Friends Invitational; 2009 Wendy's Charity Challenge; 2007 BJ's Charity Championship Co-Champion; 2006 BJ's Charity Championship Co-Champion. Johnson was T44 in the 2018 Senior LPGA Championship.

Johnson shot 76-79-77-76=308 (+16) to finish T33 in the inaugural U.S. Senior Women's Open.
