David Duval

In college, Duval was a four-time All-American, just the third Division I player with that honor after Phil Mickelson and Gary Hallberg. In 1993 he was named the collegiate player of the year. At 21 years, 9 months, he became the youngest player to win a Nike Tour event at the 1993 Nike Wichita Open.
1993 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 9; in money - 8; top-10 finishes - 5; scoring average 69.29; money $85,882 (ranked 11th).
1994 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 22; scoring average 70.16 (ranked 5th); money $126,430 (ranked 8th); best finish, 2nd, Nike Utah Classic. Won $81,076 in his last eight tournaments.
He joined the PGA Tour in 1995, setting a record at the time for earnings by a rookie with $881,436. His first two year's earnings of $1,858,515 at the time were the most won in players' first two years on the PGA Tour. Times have changed as Anthony Kim is the new leader with $6.2 million won in 2007 and 2008.
He finished second on tour seven times before breaking through with a win at the 1997 Michelob Championship, the first of three wins in successive starts. He won four times in 1998 and finished T2nd at the Masters after leading by three with three holes to play.
He began 1999 much as he had finished 1998, winning the Mercedes Championship by nine strokes and then shooting a final-round 59 to win the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. He picked up his 10th victory in The Players Championship. Duval's father and uncle are both golf professionals, with his father playing on the Champions Tour. With his win in The Players Championship and his fathers the same day in the Champions Tour Emerald Coast Classic, they became the first father-son combination to win on the same day. Another big honor came that year when he took over the No. 1 spot in the world for 14 weeks, then had it for another week in August.
Started slowing down in 2000, after he was sidelined for 10 weeks with back problems. The only win came at Buick Challenge.
Overcame an early-season wrist injury with tendinitis in the right wrist to win the first major of his career at the British Open. Finished eighth in earnings, the sixth consecutive year in the top 10, and the fourth time to top $2-million mark. That would be his last victory on the PGA Tour, injuries and swing changes turned things around. After seven straight years in the top-11 in earnings, dropped down to 80 in 2002.
Over the course of ten years between 2003 and 2012 finished 130th once because of his runner-up finish in the 2009 U.S. Open and 106th because of his runner-up finish at the 2010 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am. But in the other eight years was no higher than 152nd on the money list, again injuries that forced swing changes were problems. Also got married and took most of 2007 off only playing seven times (five of them in January/February) due to the difficult pregnancy of his wife Susie. Played in two events after the birth of daughter Sienna in August.
Struggled again in 2012 as he missed 13 of 17 cuts as his best finish was T60th at the Valero Texas Open. 2013 isn't much better as he has missed seven cuts in his eight starts. Wears sunglasses on the golf course due to eye stigma, which causes sensitivity to light. Member of the USA Walker Cup Team in 1991, the President Cup team in 1996, 1998, and 2000. Also on the Ryder Cup team in 1999 and 2002.
2014 Notes: Had a T-25th in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans his best finish since his T-23rd at the 2011 Shriners Hospital. Played in 15 events only making three cuts.
2015 Notes: Spent more time in the Golf Channel booth than in PGA Tour events. Only played in 6 events, making one cut with a T-47th finish at the Puerto Rico Open and T-49th at the Open Championship. In 2016 only played twice missing the cut at AT&T Pebble Beach and withdrawing from the Open Championship.
In 2017 has missed four cuts, Sanderson Farms, AT&T Pebble Beach and FedEx St. Jude Classic, and Open Championship.
In 2018 continued his work with Golf Channel, has missed three cuts at the AT&T Pebble Beach, Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and AT&T Byron Nelson withdrew from the British Open.
In 2019 works for the Golf Channel and missed the cut in three events, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Puerto Rico Open, and Corales Puntacana Resort.
In 2020 played once in the AT&T Pebble Beach and withdrew after shooting 84 at Pebble Beach.
In 2021 missed the cut at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am.
2022 Notes: Turned 50 and made his first PGA Tour Champions start at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai finishing T-34th. Was T-31st at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, his best finish.. Does commentary for ESPN.
