Peter Hanson

Hanson, who was born in Svedala, Sweden, wrapped up an impressive amateur career by winning the English Amateur Open Stroke Play Championship at Formby in 1998. He also represented Sweden at the Eisenhower Trophy that same year. He was coached by Jan Larsson, the professional at Bokskogen where he was first introduced to the game by neighbors. Hanson turned professional in 1998 and has played on the Challenge Tour, the European Tour and the PGA Tour.
Hanson initially earned his place on the European Tour through the 2000 Qualifying School and then through the Challenge Tour Rankings in 2001. Having failed to qualify for the Open Championship, he traveled to Germany and won the Gunther Hamburg Classics, the richest event of the year on the Challenge Tour, to guarantee himself a place in the top 15 in the rankings. Lost his card again at the end of the 2002 season, but bounced back again through the Challenge Tour the following year.
One of the highlights of his career came in 2008 when he won his national open championship, the SAS Masters, at Arlandastad Golf in Stockholm. He was the first Swede to win the event in 10 years. That was his second European Tour victory, following his win at the 2005 Open de Espana en Andalucia at San Roque Club, where he beat compatriot Peter Gustafsson in a playoff.
2010 Notes: Despite a penalty stroke for a double hit, won the Iberdrola Open Cala Millor Mallorca in a playoff with Alejandro Canizares for his third European Tour victory. Picked up his second European Tour title of the season when he won the Czech Open in August. Qualified for the European Ryder Cup team for the first time and compiled a 1-2-0 record during its win.
2011 Notes: Didn't win, but in 29 events, played around the world. Had a runner-up finish at the Volvo Golf Champions. It was the first of 10 top-10s. Ended the year with a 3rd at the USB Hong Kong Open and 4th at the Dubai World Championship.
2012 Notes: Played in 27 events around the world, winning the KLM Open and the BMW Masters, finishing T-2nd at the Qatar Masters and T-3rd at the Masters. Went on to a career-high fourth in The Race to Dubai, missed only one cut. Also part of Europe?s victory in the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah, his second appearance in the contest. With his T-5th at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and T-4th at the WGC-Cadillac, he received Special Temporary Membership on the PGA Tour.
2013 Notes: Experienced a tough year, due mostly to nagging injuries to his back and neck. They got worse over the summer, when he was forced to withdraw from the Greenbrier and British Open. In 23 worldwide events, had five top-10s, but the best was a T-8th at the WGC-Cadillac and the BMW Masters.
2014 Notes: Struggled with a back injury, only managing to play in 20 events around the world, best finish T-10th at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. Finished the year with 159,277 euro on the European Tour.
2015 Notes: Played in 16 events around the world, had one top-ten a T-7th at the BMW International. Earned 294,213 euro and finished 95th in the Race to Dubai.
2016 Notes: Had one top-ten, T-6th at the Volvo China Open.
