Thriston Lawrence

He had a very successful amateur career winning the 2013 South African Amateur, 2014 Lytham Trophy, and again won the 2014 South African Amateur.
Lawrence turned professional in 2014. He played on the MENA Tour in 2015 and the Challenge Tour in 2016. He won the MENA Tour Order of Merit in 2015. He played on the Big Easy Tour in 2018, gaining his card for the 2019-20 Sunshine Tour season. He won his first Sunshine Tour event in 2019 at the Vodacom Origins of Golf at Stellenbosch. In that year played in 19 Sunshine Tour events and was 5th in the Order of Merit.
He became the first DP World Tour-era winner with his success at the 2021 Joburg Open, which was reduced to 36-holes due to inclement weather and the discovery of a new Covid-19 variant. That made him a full-time European Tour member; he was T-2nd at the Magical Kenya Open, T-9th at the MyGolfLife Open, and T-8th at the Steyn City Championship.
With the Joburg Open win, Lawrence jumped from 503rd in the Official World Golf Rankings to 243rd and won the first event of the Open Qualifying Series. So he got to play in his first major in the British Open at St Andrew and finished T-42nd.
2022 Notes: Played in 30 DP World Tour events making 22 cuts with eight top-ten finishes. He was 14th in the Race to Dubai. He got off to a great start winning the Joburg Open by four shots over Zander Lombard. He was T-2nd at the Magical Kenya Open, four shots back of the winner Wu Ashun. He was 3rd at the Horizon Irish Open, four shots back of the winner Adrian Meronk. He finished T-8th at the D+D Real Czech Masters. The following week he won the Omega European Masters. With rounds of 62-64-67-69, he ended tied with Matt Wallace and beat him with a par on the first playoff hole. He was T-6th at the Andalucia Masters and finished the season with a 41st finish at the DP World Tour Championship.
2023 Notes: Won the Investec South African Open by a shot over Clement Sordet. WOn the BMW International Open by a shot over Joost Luiten.
